Jake Reder, Cofounder, Director, & Chief Executive Officer

Jake founded the New Ventures Office at Dartmouth Medical School in 2008 and serves as its first Director. Previously Jake led new business platforms and projects, external innovation, and knowledge management initiatives at Cabot Corporation. He started up Cabot’s Printed Electronics Business and Optical Composites Platform, and was a member of Cabot’s Research Council, Technology Board, and Nanotechnology EHS Council. Jake joined Cabot’s New Business Development team from PolyTechnos Venture-Partners, a Munich-based venture capital firm where he advised on early stage technology investments. Jake has studied, worked, and taught in Canada, Germany, and the United States. He has served on the Boards of the Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology at Rice University, TechConnect, Everybody Wins! Metro Boston, the Cabot Boston Credit Union, and the Billerica Partners for Education. He is a cofounder and Director of Knowmata GmbH, a virtual training/serious gaming startup. Jake earned a B.Sc. with First Class Honours from the University of Waterloo, and a Ph.D. (Chemistry) as a Brown-Wetherill Fellow at Purdue University and Ludwig Maximilians Universität.

Michael W. Fanger, Cofounder, Chairman, & Chief Scientific Officer

Mike was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Celldex Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: CLDX), as well as the Founder and Director of Medarex (formerly NASDAQ: MEDX; acquired by BMS in 2009 for $2.4B) from its inception in 1987 until 2004. Mike has been a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology and of Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School since 1981, and was Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology from 1992 until 2002. He is a graduate of Wabash College and received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Yale University.

Eric Achtmann, Director

Eric is currently Managing Director at Global Capital Advisors GmbH and a Senior Lecturer at both the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and the University of Munich. Previously Eric was a Managing Partner at PolyTechnos Venture-Partners, a 200M pan-European venture fund based in Germany. He joined PolyTechnos in 1998 from McKinsey & Co., where he served as a product development/defense-aerospace industry expert and worked heavily in M&A. Eric gained start-up experience as founder and President/CEO of Petrotech International operating in the Middle East and Asia. He has studied and worked in the U.S., Europe, and Asia and has served on the boards of a number of early-stage companies. Eric holds engineering degrees from MIT (M.S. Aero & Astro Eng.); the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics, Belgium (Dipl. Post-Univ.); Technical University of Munich (H. Dipl.); and University of New Hampshire (B.S. Mech. Eng.). He received an MBA in finance from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Eric is a founding member of the MIT Entrepreneurship Society.

Kennett F. Burnes, Director

Ken is Retired Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT), a global specialty chemicals company. He was Chairman from 2001 to March 2008, President from 1995 to January 2008 and Chief Executive Officer from 2001 to January 2008. Prior to joining Cabot Corporation in 1987, Ken was a partner at the Boston-based law firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart, where he specialized in corporate and business law for nearly 20 years. He is a Director of State Street Corporation and Watts Water Technologies, Inc., a member of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Board of Trustees and a board member of New England Conservatory. Ken is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Schepens Eye Research Institute. Ken holds both an LL.B. and B.A. degree from Harvard University.

Steven Gillis, Director

Steve is a Managing Director at ARCH Venture Partners. He was a founder and director of Corixa Corp. and served as the company's CEO from its inception and as its Chairman from 1999 until its $300M acquisition by GlaxoSmithKline in 2005. Prior to Corixa, Steve was a founder and director of Immunex Corp. From 1981 until his departure in 1994, he served as Immunex's Director of R&D, CSO, and as CEO of Immunex's R&D subsidiary. Steve was interim CEO of Immunex Corp. following its majority purchase by American Cyanamid Co. and remained a member of the board until 1997. Amgen, Inc. acquired Immunex in 2002 for $16B. Steve is an immunologist by training with over 300 peer-reviewed publications. He is credited as being a pioneer in the field of cytokines and cytokine receptors, directing the development of multiple marketed products including Leukine, (GM-CSF), Prokine (IL-2) and Enbrel (soluble TNF receptor-Fc fusion protein) as well as the regulatory approval of Bexxar (radiolabeled anti-CD20). Dr. Gillis received a B.A. from Williams College and a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College.

Steven Potter, Director

Steve is Founder and CEO of Allyon Solutions, LLC, which provides integrated private equity, finance, and real estate services to early stage technology companies. Previously he was cofounder, CEO, and Chairman, of Sextant Search Partners, a New York-based financial services executive search firm. He was also cofounder of Axiom Consulting, a human capital and strategy-consulting firm. In 1999, Steve became CEO of TMP Worldwide Executive Search after TMP’s acquisition of Highland Search Group. Steve cofounded Highland after 14 years at Russell Reynolds Associates, Inc. where he was Managing Director, Head of Global Banking and Merchant Banking, and a member of the Executive and Compensation Committees. A graduate of Yale University, Steve is a member of the Board of Trustees for the National History Museum of the Adirondacks and has served on the Board of Taft School. He currently serves on the Boards of Pantheon International, Celdara Medical, DIBIF, LLC, and ImmuRx, LLC.
